Product Information

Are your bags made from real leather?

Yes, they are! All our bags are handcrafted using rescued leather, making them sustainable, eco-friendly, and one-of-a-kind.

Where does the leather come from?

I use genuine rescued leather — pieces that have been rejected by the leather and furniture industries. They might have wrinkles, blemishes, scuffs, or unusual grain or colour. Basically, anything that made them imperfect in the eyes of mass production.

But here’s the thing - those so-called flaws? They’re exactly why I love them.

These are the bits with character, with stories, with soul. I handpick them and turn them into something beautiful, giving them a second life instead of sending them to landfill. It’s still top-quality leather - just with a bit more personality. And frankly, who wants bland and boring anyway?

Are your bags vegan-friendly?

No. Currently, our bags are made from rescued animal hide leather, so they are not vegan. However, they are sustainably made and help reduce waste.

How do I care for my leather bag?

Look after your bag, and it’ll love you back for years. Leather is tough and timeless, but it does appreciate a bit of TLC now and then.

  • Keep it dry – If it gets caught in the rain (because, y’know… Britain), just gently blot it with a soft cloth and let it air dry naturally. Don’t blast it with a hairdryer or pop it on a radiator - leather doesn’t like that.
  • Feed it occasionally - A small amount of leather conditioner every few months keeps it soft and supple. Just test it on a hidden spot first to be safe.
  • Store it with care - When not in use, keep your bag somewhere cool and dry, ideally in a dust bag (or a pillowcase works too). Stuff it with tissue or clean fabric to help it hold its shape.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals – Don’t (I repeat, don't) use baby wipes, alcohol, or anything too scrubby. A soft, slightly damp cloth is your best friend for day-to-day clean-ups.

Your bag will naturally soften and age over time -that’s part of its charm. Those little scuffs and patinas? They’re just part of your story together.

Are all your bags completely unique?

Yes! Every single bag I make is one of a kind. Although I sometimes use the same tried-and-tested patterns, I always mix things up.

The rescued leather I use varies in colour, texture and markings - and I embrace those quirks! I also pair each one with carefully chosen linings and finishes, so no two bags are ever exactly the same.

So when you buy a Lilly & Jude bag, you’re not just buying something handmade — you’re getting a completely unique piece that nobody else will ever own.

That’s the magic of slow fashion. ✨

What if I fall in love with a bag that's sold out?

If you adore a particular bag, you can contact us to register your interest. I’ll do my best to create another using similar materials, but please note that it won’t be an exact replica.

The availability of scrap leather and materials can limit what I can make, so I can’t make promises - but I’ll try my best to accommodate your request and put it onto my 'make' list.

Sustainability

How are your bags sustainable?

My bags are crafted from genuine rescued leather - pieces that would otherwise end up in landfill. By using these discarded materials, I’m giving them a second life as beautiful, high-quality bags.

The linings come from a UK business specialising in dead stock, end-of-roll, and slightly imperfect fabrics - saving even more waste from the bin.

Each bag is handmade by me here in the UK, reducing the carbon footprint compared to mass-produced alternatives. Plus, I deliver locally using an electric car to keep things as eco-friendly as possible.

For shipping, I use Royal Mail, which has its own sustainability practices. Your bag will arrive wrapped in recyclable tissue paper, brown parcel paper, and cardboard boxes - all fully recyclable.

Sustainability at Lilly & Jude means combining style, quality, and thoughtful choices - so you can carry your bag knowing it’s kind to the planet.

What materials of you use for your bag linings?

I choose beautiful fabrics to perfectly complement the rescued leather. Unlike your boring 'designer' bags, Lilly & Jude bags are all about business on the outside, party on the inside!

These linings come from a UK business specialising in dead stock, end-of-roll, and slightly imperfect fabrics that would otherwise go to waste. This means every bag is not only stylish and durable but also eco-conscious from the inside out.
